It's all about the Gear.

It's January! Deep winter, my people! Some places are doing better than others, but that's a whole other story. This is another installment of great gear we are really into lately. This is our review. Everything in this blog is used by us in the field while producing. Just having a good ol' time and making magic happen.  The right gear produces the right experience. Zero B$$LS*&T!!

PREMIUM MERINO TOP by MYPAKAGE

It's all about the layers.  It's also about what they are made of too.  This new top by MYPAKAGE is 100% Merino wool and gets the under-layer job done in more ways than one.  First things first.  There is nothing better than wool.  Keeps you dry, warm and cool all at once.  We've been using this piece everyday this winter and love it.  It's got a nice cut to it and the thumb gaskets are a nice touch to keep it from bunching up in your jacket while being active.  The material also won't get all stinky. It can be used for some time before needing a wash. Second it's super styling. This is the ultimate apres ski piece out there.  No more looking like a sweaty super hero in tights at the bar after riding. This top could even pull off dinner in some cases...in the mountains of course.    FIND IT HERE .

REMIND insoles.

REMIND insoles will bring life back to your boots and feet.  The insoles that come with 90% of the snowboard boots out there are garbage. They have more than a few models to choose from for all foot types. Self forming and Bio-Mechanically engineered to bring your feet into proper alignment and give you top arch support.  Foot fatigue is a thing of the past and your back will thank you too. We added these into our snowboard boots and saw a difference instantly.  You can also add them to old winter boots like Sorels to put a spring in your step after riding. It's like putting whisky in a weak beer. FIND THEM HERE

TITAN STRAPS

Yeah it's just a ski strap.  Sure.  I like these ones though.  They are a little thicker and feel a bit tougher than others I've used.  "Have I ever broken a ski strap?" No, and I never want to. Someone once told that every backcountry user worth their salt has at least three of these in their kit at all times. These also come in use on set for commercials and films. So many uses.   FIND THEM HERE

Gear Stoke

We love gear. Good quality gear. Without the proper tools you can't succeed while working in the outdoors. Everything from how you get there, what you eat, where you sleep and the essentials you need to make the production a success.  Here's some more products we love to use while having fun and producing commercials/ad campaigns in the outdoors.

*Note to readers.*  If it's not on this page than we didn't like it.  All gear is not created equal.

Dakine High Roller bag

The DAKINE High Roller bag is the king of snowboard/ski bags. I've used this bag for 20 plus trips across North/South America.  I've dragged it down stairs, put it on trains, trucks and subways. It's got all the right pockets and space for everything you need to make a trip stress free.  It's tough, water resistant and you can even take a nap on it.  I also once saw one run over by a car and it came out just fine.  Bomber!    www.dakine.com

Dakine Crossfire glove.

Dakine makes some of the best gloves/mitts in the industry.  So many models to choose from and they have a great warranty. The Crossfire model is the perfect glove to use on set while working. I love the nimble feel in the fingers and the lightweight material. If your setting up cameras on set, driving a snowmobile or skinning to a location this glove is the one for the job. Side note* Don't let this be the ONLY glove you bring out into the field. Always bring two pairs depending on how cold it is.  www.dakine.com

Gear Aid ARC LED light and charger

The Gear Aid ARC light.  So handy.  I've used this thing at campsites, job locations, on set and on the road.  It has multi light and colour settings which allow you to light certain situations while filming as well.  It's also a powerbank and is great to have during productions to keep smaller devices charged like GOPRO cameras and Smartphones.   www.gearaid.com

Lago Snowboards OPEN ROAD

We love it when we produce commercials/ads with ski resorts, snowmobiles and helicopters. This means we can most likely get to move around on boards like this. I had the pleasure of riding this snowboard all last winter.  If I wasn't using my splitboard I was on this bad A#$ board. It's got a super floaty shape that keeps you on top for the deep, deep days. A nice flex pattern gives it a wicked pop for those ollies and jumps.  I rode this board in Canada and Utah.  It took some shots to the base from rocks that you can't even notice. This thing is tough! We met Scotty Lago while working on the film Art of Flight.  He takes board building seriously.  Best board for your buck. Trust me. www.lagosnowboards.com

ABOM heated goggles.

These are battery powered heated goggles.... and yes they work.  We got to use them for a good chunk of the season in all types of weather.  A one touch button starts a heated layer in the lens that will get rid of foggy lenses while hiking and in places like the Snowbird tram in Utah where we used them mostly.  They have a polycarbonate lens so you can just wipe them out if you bail in the snow.  Hit the button and "flash dry" that moisture out.  They fit in most helmets and you can charge them with a USB cord in the car on the way to the mountain.  Pretty impressive! www.abom.com
