ARGOS "Just Can't Wait." A Christmas production from the past.

Here's a look at one of the biggest holiday productions we've been a part of.  The production was produced by ROGUE films UK, created by CHI and Partners and Directed by MARK ZIBERT. The Argos campaign for Christmas 2015 was a monster of a production and we were over the moon to be involved. Filmed just below the Valle Nevado ski resort in Chile, South America.  This production was a perfect fit for us here at CWM. We were involved from the ground up.  Helping secure talent for skiing and snowboarding, consulting on terrain locations as well as getting a DOP credit for all the POV angles in the ad that we set up and filmed. Here are some behind the scenes photos and links of "JUST CAN'T WAIT" to check out. Enjoy!

Gear Stoke

We love gear. Good quality gear. Without the proper tools you can't succeed while working in the outdoors. Everything from how you get there, what you eat, where you sleep and the essentials you need to make the production a success.  Here's some more products we love to use while having fun and producing commercials/ad campaigns in the outdoors.

*Note to readers.*  If it's not on this page than we didn't like it.  All gear is not created equal.

Dakine High Roller bag

The DAKINE High Roller bag is the king of snowboard/ski bags. I've used this bag for 20 plus trips across North/South America.  I've dragged it down stairs, put it on trains, trucks and subways. It's got all the right pockets and space for everything you need to make a trip stress free.  It's tough, water resistant and you can even take a nap on it.  I also once saw one run over by a car and it came out just fine.  Bomber!   www.dakine.com

BlackStrap face mask.

In recent years you've probably noticed that everyone is wearing some kind of face wear these days.  This is a good one!  Full face UV protection and a proper fit.  It won't bunch up under your helmet either. It's really comfortable on your skin too.  Breathable material that won't freeze which is key on powder days.  BlackStrap products are doing it right. www.bsbrand.com

Dakine Crossfire glove.

Dakine makes some of the best gloves/mitts in the industry.  So many models to choose from and they have a great warranty. The Crossfire model is the perfect glove to use on set while working. I love the nimble feel in the fingers and the lightweight material. If your setting up cameras on set, driving a snowmobile or skinning to a location this glove is the one for the job. Side note* Don't let this be the ONLY glove you bring out into the field. Always bring two pairs depending on how cold it is. www.dakine.com

Lago Snowboards OPEN ROAD

We love it when we produce commercials/ads with ski resorts, snowmobiles and helicopters. This means we can most likely get to move around on boards like this. I had the pleasure of riding this snowboard all last winter.  If I wasn't using my splitboard I was on this bad A#$ board. It's got a super floaty shape that keeps you on top for the deep, deep days. A nice flex pattern gives it a wicked pop for those ollies and jumps.  I rode this board in Canada and Utah.  It took some shots to the base from rocks that you can't even notice. This thing is tough! We met Scotty Lago while working on the film Art of Flight.  He takes board building seriously.  Best board for your buck. Trust me. www.lagosnowboards.com

ABOM heated goggles.

These are battery powered heated goggles.... and yes they work.  We got to use them for a good chunk of the season in all types of weather.  A one touch button starts a heated layer in the lens that will get rid of foggy lenses while hiking and in places like the Snowbird tram in Utah where we used them mostly.  They have a polycarbonate lens so you can just wipe them out if you bail in the snow.  Hit the button and "flash dry" that moisture out.  They fit in most helmets and you can charge them with a USB cord in the car on the way to the mountain.  Pretty impressive! www.abom.com

Eclipse Commercials???

The total Eclipse of the sun of 2017 has come and gone but you can be sure it's not the last you have heard or seen of it. I'm positive that come holiday season and during major sporting events you'll see a barrage of different ad campaigns showing or involving the 2017 Eclipse in some way or another. So many people saw the Eclipse and were emotionally changed by it. Then there are the millions of people that wish they saw it around the world that will also be touched by it's visual beauty. We headed to Bend, Oregon to get a front row view of the show.  We weren't on an official production job but here are some quirky things we saw. I definitely will be keeping my eyes peeled for commercials.  It was too amazing not to use as an ad idea!

Gear Review from the Field.

We’ve compiled some cool products that we love to use out in the field. You can't imagine how many different pieces of gear get used while shooting ad campaigns and commercials in the outdoors. Instead of boring you with super technical details and blah blah blah, we’ve decided to just let you know the hard facts on why we like these items.  Check it out….

Electric Goggles CWP

P1170231.jpg

The Electric EG3 is an awesome wide visual goggle with press seal technology.  Swapping lenses is a breeze and they fit almost all helmets. This goggles also come in a smaller Womans frame size for people with smaller noses and faces. Click Here.

Remind Liners

P1170246.jpg

We put these liners into some older boot shells (pictured) and they brought them right back to life.  If you’re looking for an easy economical fix to supercharge the support in your old boots then this is it.  Lots of support and backed by a solid team of pros that use the product too. Click Here.

Spark Splitboard bindings.

P1170254.jpg

The best splitboard bindings going.  The Spark ARC is the fast way to head up hill to get downhill.  Milled out baseplates make them ultra-light and won’t clog with snow.  The toe lever makes transitions from ski mode to snowboard a simple task. Great straps and rachets to boot. Click Here.

Black Diamond, Dawn Patrol Backpack.

P1170210.jpg

This pack was a dream to wear.  Great organizing functions for all the essential backcountry gear (probe, shovel, first aid, food etc…) The ergonomical straps for your back make putting it on and off perfect. Helmet carry function? Check!  We will add that the back access with full zip made this a winner.  Get out early with the Dawn Patrol.  Click Here.

BCA LINK radios.

P1170195.jpg

Keep in touch with your friends.  Communication is key.  The best part about these and that they have multi channel options but more importantly you can leave the radio inside your backpack or jacket and have the key unit clipped to your jacket just like a pro. Click Here.

Beyond Coastal Sunscreen.

P1170189.jpg

Don’t get burned out there.  Slather your face with this long lasting super natural product. It might turn you into Casper the ghost but at least you won’t turn into a Lobster?! Click Here.

Swell Water Bottle.

P1170178.jpg

Insulated and light-weight.  This is a great bottle that keeps it hot and cold.  Really cool graphics and designs as well.  Also doubles as a great bottle for the yoga studio after a day on the mountain. Click Here.

Helinox Poles.

P1170175.jpg

This are super light-weight and that’s what we love about them.  The tension lock system makes these poles snap into place faster than a resort tracked out on a Saturday.  Head to the hills on your splitboard or go for a snowshoe in the woods to beat the crowds and get the pow! Click Here.

Munk Pack.

P1170125.jpg

Yummy!  Fast food for a fast life.  Jam these into your pack for a day on the snow and keep your backpack light and clean.  Plenty of tasty flavors too.  Remember to pack out your trash. Click Here.

Black Diamond, Legend Gloves.

P1170123.jpg

Something for the ladies.  These gloves are legit leather and come with PrimaLoft and Gore-tex making them a perfect combo.  You’ll have these for more than a few seasons. Top Quality. Click Here.

Black Diamond, Impulse Gloves.

P1170113.jpg

We loved these because of the under the cuff design and fleece lining. These gloves are perfect for going up on those touring missions or at the resort.  Super sticky palms make them awesome for board/ski feel when your grabbing poles or a board into the white winter. Click Here.

Dakine Plaid Shirt.

IMG_1890.jpg

In all honesty we wore this exact shirt for almost a month straight on our last mountain mission.  I don’t mean on the mountain, but once we were off the slopes it was a go to shirt.  Anti stink material keeps it stylish and manageable (Polygiene Odor Control Technology). Click Here.

Gear Aid Tenacious Tape.

IMG_1745.jpg

It’s all about fixing it if it ain’t broke right?!  Fix that little tear in your gear with this awesome product. We used a ton of this tape recently.  They have a variety of shapes, sizes and colours too.  Don’t use Duct tape…. That’s so 1994.  Click Here. Tool by: Click Here.

Mpowerd LUCI Solar Light.

IMG_1645.jpg

Let there be FREE light!  We used these awesome little inflatable units while staying in a cabin that ran off a generator.  They pack down super small and are waterproof as well.  So many uses.  Back of the car, touring, cabins, backyards and did we mention Solar power?  Yes… that is cool!  Click Here.

Places we love to work.

There are thousands of places to ski and snowboard on the planet.  So many choices. They all hold their own special magic.  Here’s a list of the places on this globe that I’ve been lucky enough to visit once, twice and even more.  We've also created some sort of media at each of these locations.  Feature films, ad campaigns, photos and the list goes on.....

MICA HELI, BC, Canada

This glorious place is located north of Revelstoke, BC, nestled up against the Eastern Rockies.  There is no road to the lodge and it is strictly fly-in and out.  Some of the steepest deepest lines I’ve ever had.  Pillow stacks the size of a “Giants” pancake breakfast that will have you bouncing down snow till the end of the day.

RETALLACK, BC,Canada

This wild interior British Columbia operation is a renegade in my eyes, but in a good way.  They ride it all here. Amazing glades and a really down to earth staff. After choking on powder all day we were treated to a fire pit and beers at days end when our steamy and stoked snowcat came back down to the lodge.

This place is one of the originals and I’m calling it Gangster cat-skiing. Its lodges, terrain and food are all time exceptional. Go here and ride lines you’ve seen in movies and magazines, while living the snow gangster lifestyle.

LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada

Ahhhh.. the Lake!  I’ve ridden here more than any other place in the world.  It’s my home mountain and always will be.  The steeps of Whitehorn and the perfect grooming make this place a go-to in all conditions. It’s always good! Best views in Canada.

UTAH, USA (Brighton and Snowbird)

The license plate reads “Greatest Snow on Earth”  It just might be.  Awesome lift access and long runs with a snowpack bigger than most in North America.  Brighton ski area has a ton of options with an amazing terrain park.  Just over in the next canyon is Snowbird ski area.  The access from the top of the Tram is world class and there’s tons of snow for everyone.

Why Ski in Summer????

It’s the middle of summer here in North America and people are out camping, mowing the lawn and generally sweating without even having to move. On the other side of the world in South America, winter is in full swing. That’s right, the Andean mountain range in the countries of Chile and Argentina are covered in snow right now. From June to October you can head south for snow and discover another world of winter. Everything you need in one amazing location to produce video/commercial and retail media for the coming winter in North America.  Here we go from fifteen to one.....

15. You’re  just completely over the heat.  Say adios to the sweaty socks and head south to winter.

14. You’ve never been on a production location outside your home continent. In fact, you can’t even remember your last vacation.

13. You’ve been telling yourself for years you need of a life-changing experience and need to see what all the fuss is about in Patagonia.

12. South America has a wide variety of dishes and drinks you don’t see here in North America. It’s almost like a foodie vacation too.

Chillan, Chile, South America

Chillan, Chile, South America

11. You were injured all season and missed out on some serious powder days.

10. You own and love the clothes but have never been to the place. It’s time to visit PATAGONIA.

Guacho, Argentina, South America

9. You like to party, drink wine and dance all night.  Discos rock until the morning light all over South America.

8. Return to the office with a goggle tan in the summer.

7. Camping and fishing  just isn’t exciting enough for you.  You need some powder turns…now.

The right GEAR for the job.

Lots of extras go into the making of media outside and here are some of the amazing products we have used on location and still use everyday.

Sunscreen

The high altitude of the Andes mountain range can be dangerous for your skin and lips. Packing some natural products with a high SPF is key to making sure you don’t get sidelined with lobster face on set. Product by: Beyond Coastal

Goggles

When you can’t see then you can’t snowboard. It’s that easy.
